Figuring out what to pack in your hospital bag can be overwhelming. I have been fortunate enough to have amazing friends who are mothers that I can ask for help in figuring out what all we need. I have also been trying to only pack what I need and not end up with a bunch of stuff that we have to lug around at the hospital.
My husband and I did a hospital tour, and I must say, it was quite the emotional experience for me. That was the moment for me that I realized any day now I would be a mom. Excited and nervous at the same time. I was officially 39 weeks as of yesterday. I am moving slower and slower each day.
One thing to remember is you have to your car seat base installed and checked to ensure that it is properly installed. Columbus has different fire stations that you can go to and they will check your car seat for you. You are not allowed to leave the hospital without a car seat, so be sure that it is in the car that you plan on taking to the hospital.
Below is a list of items you will need for your trip to the hospital:
For Mom
- Loose fitting nursing night gown
- Robe
- Slippers
- Nursing bra
- Postpartum comfortable underwear
- Disposable nursing pads
- Nipple Cream
- Water bottle with straw
- Going home outfit
For Baby
- Two going home outfits
- Blanket
- Swaddle
A lot of our friends have told us that we will not need to pack any diapers, wipes, or diaper cream. All that stuff will be provided by the hospital and we can take a few items home. Who am I kidding, we will be cleaning out the drawers and taking ALL extras home.
For Dad
- Comfortable going home outfit
- Pajamas
- Snacks and drinks
- Slippers

Toiletries, I have been told are also a must have. Everyone has mentioned that hospital toiletries are not the greatest. Makeup is optional. I do not wear makeup on a day to day basis, so I will not be packing any. I might pack some mascara to somewhat look decent, but to be quite honest, its not at the top of my list. The message on this toiletry bag from Adornlee could not be anymore fitting. The adventure truly is about to begin.
