15 Items to Put in a Baby Gift Basket

This post was sponsored by Walmart. All opinions are my own.

Being first time parents we never really knew what exactly to buy for our son (see our minimalist nursery here). Most of our friends had babies before us and we always struggled with what to get as gifts. I have partnered with Walmart to help celebrate 20 years of their in-house brand, Parent’s Choice. I am sharing some of the top 15 items to put in a baby gift basket below.

Babies are always a blessing and what better way to celebrate their coming to the world than to give out a baby gift basket. You can never go wrong with a newborn baby gift basket and moms will surely appreciate this gesture. Gift baskets are practical plus you can even customize it to add that special touch. Baby gift baskets should not just be for the baby but you can also add a few items for the mummy.  You can choose to buy a pre-made gift basket but why not make it personal and just create your own basket? Here are a few suggestions for your next baby gift basket:

  1. Bibs

There are many kinds of bibs but you can always pick out the standard ones which are made of cotton. Bibs play a very important role especially during feeding time since it can prevent food stains on the baby’s clothes and also protect the skin from rashes which may be caused from food spills. You can even go the extra mile and personalize the bib with the baby’s name or a cartoon character.

  1. Books

New moms will surely appreciate self-help books that will guide them in this new stage in their life. You can also add a few children’s books which can be used for story telling or when the baby is a bit older.

  1. Booties

Booties serve as the baby’s form of footwear and can protect their precious little feet from cold weather and can also be a good fashion statement. Booties are just perfect for babies which can also be considered as transitional footwear. There are so many brands that sell booties of all sorts but you have to pay attention to the materials used in the footwear. Choose booties that are designed for comfort and have a soft interior that will last for a good amount of time.

  1. Caps or Hats

Caps or hats can be great accessories but will also help protect the baby’s head from the weather. Pick a cap or hat that is made of soft but top quality materials and they should also be fashionable which will serve as a statement accessory for the baby.

  1. Cleaning Supplies

Do make sure to include a few cleaning supplies such as a bottle brush and detergent. These items are inexpensive but are very useful in making sure that the baby’s things are clean and sanitized at all times.

  1. Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers are actually a lot cheaper compared to the disposable brands. These items are also great for the environment and are designed to be more absorbent. Add a pack or two of cloth diapers in the gift basket and make it a gift that keeps on giving.

  1. Diaper Rash Cream

Baby’s skin is sensitive and is susceptible to rashes and other similar skin conditions. It is very important for moms to have a rash cream handy to make sure that the skin will be treated right away. Choose a diaper rash cream that is made of safe and natural ingredients which will help get the best results.

  1. Food

The new momma will surely love receiving their favorite food even it is just a candy bar. These little but thoughtful gestures do matter especially when the parent is still adjusting to their new life.

  1. Grooming Kit

A grooming kit includes hair brush, safety clippers and even a cute emery board. You can get the items separately and have it engraved with the baby’s name or you can buy a small kit or pouch which contains the grooming products.

  1. Hygiene Supplies

Add a baby shampoo, soap, lotion and also clothes detergent to the gift basket. Hygiene supplies are considered as a necessity and it would be great if you can pick out products that are made of natural ingredients which will not cause any irritation to the baby’s skin.

  1. Onesies

Onesies are great on their own or as an inner layer especially when the weather is cold. These are great as presents since the item is functional plus it could also be fashionable especially when you pick out trendy designs. Most onesies are designed as unisex and are usually made from cotton which makes it easy to wash. For an added flair, customize the onesies by printing the baby’s name on front.

  1. Swaddling Blanket

Many studies have shown the benefits of swaddling which is why parents are encouraged to bond with their child using this technique. There are many types of swaddling blanket so it is best to ask help from the experts so you can pick out the best kind. Check out product reviews or simply ask help from the store clerk.

  1. Teething Toys

Teething toys can help relieve pain and can also help develop the baby’s motor skills. Take the time to check the materials used in the teething toy and make sure to steer away from products with toxic components. There are many kinds of teething toys with various designs so do make sure to pick the ones that are sturdy enough so it could last for a good amount of time.

  1. Washcloths

Choose washcloths that are made for babies which are softer but a lot thicker. Standard washcloths are not really good for baby’s skin so instead of baby wipes, add a set of washcloths in the gift basket. Washcloths are best for bath time but moms can also use them when cleaning their face.

  1. Time-Out Card for Mom

New moms are exhausted most of the time and they would surely appreciate even just an hour of their own “Me” time. Offer to baby-sit or give them a spa card which they can use to relax even for just a few hours or you can make a personalized coupon or gift certificate. Keep in mind that even the small gestures matter and will help new moms adjust with less stress so they can ultimately enjoy their motherhood experience.
